This Privacy Policy explains how AI Dente, LLC ("AI Dente," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use Pianolyze, including the website at pianolyze.com and the web application (the "Service"). It is part of our Terms of Service. Capitalized terms that are not defined here have the meanings given in the Terms.

- Account information: your email address and, if you provide it, your name.
- Audio and related content: the audio files you upload, their file names, and metadata embedded in the files.
- Questions: the questions you ask about your recordings, and the passages you select.
- Communications: messages you send us, such as support requests, feedback, and legal notices.
Information created when you use the Service
- Outputs: separated instrument audio, transcriptions, MIDI files, waveform data, detected tempo, meter, key, chords, and other analysis, and AI-generated answers.
- Usage and billing records: your plan, purchases, subscription status, the recordings and questions you have used, and related timestamps.
Payment information
Payments are processed by Stripe. We do not receive or store your full card number. We receive limited information from Stripe, such as a customer identifier, your plan, payment status, and billing dates.
Information collected automatically
- Device and log data: IP address, browser and device type, operating system, referring pages, pages viewed, and the dates and times of your visits.
- Product analytics: the features you use and the actions you take, such as uploads, playback, clicks, sign-ins, checkout steps, and errors. We may associate this information with your account, user ID, and email address.
- Session replay: our analytics provider may record how you interact with our pages, such as mouse movements, clicks, scrolling, and page content, so we can understand and fix usability problems.
- Error data: technical details about crashes and errors, including the page or request involved.
We and our providers collect this information with cookies, local storage, pixels, and similar technologies. See Section 6.
2. How we use information
We use the information we collect to:
- provide, operate, and maintain the Service, including processing your recordings and answering your questions;
- create and secure your account, including sending sign-in codes;
- process payments, manage subscriptions, and enforce plan limits;
- communicate with you about the Service, including transactional messages, product updates, and marketing, which you can opt out of as described in Section 7;
- understand how people use the Service, measure performance, diagnose problems, and improve the Service;
- develop new products and features, and train, evaluate, and improve machine learning models, including with your audio, questions, and Outputs;
- detect, prevent, and respond to fraud, abuse, security incidents, and violations of our Terms;
- comply with legal obligations, respond to legal requests, and establish, exercise, or defend legal claims; and
- for any other purpose we describe to you when we collect the information or with your consent.
We may also create aggregated or de-identified information that does not reasonably identify you, and use and share it for any purpose.
3. AI features
When you ask a question, we send your question, the selected passage, and related musical data derived from your recording, such as notes, chords, tempo, and key, to a third-party AI model provider to generate an answer. We store your questions and the answers in your workspace. We currently use Google's Gemini models through Vercel's AI Gateway, and we may change providers at any time.
4. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information as follows:
-
Service providers. We share information with companies that provide services to us, such as:
- hosting, file storage, workflow processing, and AI routing (Vercel);
- database hosting (Neon);
- audio processing on cloud computers (Modal);
- AI models (Google);
- payment processing (Stripe);
- email delivery and email lists (Plunk); and
- analytics, session replay, and error monitoring (PostHog).
These providers process information for us, and some may also use it as described in their own privacy policies. We may change providers at any time.
-
Legal and safety. We may disclose information if we believe in good faith that it is necessary to comply with law, regulation, legal process, or a government request; to enforce our Terms, including investigating potential violations; to respond to claims of infringement, including under the DMCA; or to protect the rights, property, or safety of AI Dente, our users, or others.
-
Business transfers. We may share or transfer information as part of, or during negotiations of, a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, bankruptcy, or sale of all or part of our assets.
-
With your consent or at your direction.
-
Aggregated or de-identified information, which may be shared for any purpose.
5. Retention
We keep information for as long as your account is active and as long as we consider necessary for the purposes described in this policy, including to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, prevent abuse, and enforce our agreements.
When you delete a workspace, it is removed from your account and we take steps to delete its recordings and Outputs. Copies may remain in backups, logs, caches, and our service providers' systems for a period of time. Information that has been used to train or improve models, or that has been aggregated or de-identified, may be kept indefinitely. After your account is closed, we may delete or keep your information as permitted by law.
6. Cookies and analytics
We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember your preferences, understand how the Service is used, record sessions, and diagnose errors. Our sign-in cookies expire after up to seven days.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, but parts of the Service, including sign-in, may not work. Some browsers send "Do Not Track" or similar signals. Because there is no common standard for these signals, the Service does not respond to them, except where the law requires us to honor a specific signal.
PostHog describes its practices in its own privacy policy. We route analytics requests through our own domain, and PostHog stores the data on servers in the United States.
7. Your choices
- Marketing email. When you create an account, we may add you to our email list. You can unsubscribe with the link in any marketing email or by contacting us. We will still send transactional messages, such as sign-in codes and billing notices.
- Workspaces. You can delete any workspace from the Service at any time.
- Account. To close your account or ask us to delete your information, email nick@pianolyze.com.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights under applicable law to request access to, correction of, deletion of, or a copy of your personal information, to object to or restrict certain processing, or to withdraw consent. To make a request, email nick@pianolyze.com. We will respond as required by applicable law. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request, and we may decline requests where the law permits. If we deny your request, you may be able to appeal by replying to our decision.
European Economic Area, United Kingdom, and Switzerland. AI Dente is the controller of your personal information. We process it on these legal bases: to perform our contract with you (providing the Service); our legitimate interests (securing, analyzing, and improving the Service, developing and training models, marketing to our users, and preventing abuse), where those interests are not overridden by your rights; your consent, where we ask for it; and compliance with legal obligations. You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
9. International transfers
AI Dente is based in the United States, and we and our service providers process information in the United States and other countries. Their data protection laws may differ from those where you live. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for these transfers, such as standard contractual clauses.
10. Security
We use reasonable measures to protect information, including encrypted connections and private file storage. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee the security of your information.
11. Children
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will delete it. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, contact us.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy at any time. When we do, we will change the "Last updated" date above. If a change is material, we will give reasonable notice, such as by email or in the Service. By continuing to use the Service after changes take effect, you accept the updated policy.
